Nice Ride Minnesota is a non-profit 501(c)3 that owns and operates the Twin Cities bike share system. Our goal is to make it easy for everyone to use a bike for short urban trips. We believe a city where people choose to ride bikes for transportation is a healthier and more vibrant place to live. We currently operate an urban bike share system of 201 bike share stations with more than 1,850 bikes.

The Driver-Balancer will be responsible for safe operation of trucks and trailers for the purposes of redistributing bikes throughout the system. To that end, the Driver-Balancer will load and unload bikes, and dock/undock bikes at every station stop. Additionally, the Driver-Balancer will be responsible for basic ongoing maintenance of bikes, bike stations and other equipment. The Driver-Balancer will work under the guidance and supervision of the Operations Director. The responsibilities and duties of this position described here are representative of those an employee must perform. This is not a comprehensive list and other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Key Aspects of Position:

  • Drive a compact pickup with a trailer for the purpose of moving bikes around the system
  • Load/unload vehicles with bikes, dock/undock bikes at stations
  • Reboot stations, replace station batteries and paper rolls as necessary
  • Respond to station emergencies such as accidents for the purpose of cleaning up debris and delivering/replacing station components
  • Perform minor vehicle maintenance such as replacing bulbs and fluids
  • Perform pre/post trip vehicle inspections for each shift and fill out associated paperwork
  • Report vehicle issues/problems promptly to management
  • Clean vehicles of litter and debris after every shift
  • Follow safe work practices and help to create a safe working environment
  • Communicate with Nice Ride staff and coworkers using provided phone and laptop
  • Adopt new procedures in a timely fashion and seek out help/guidance from management if necessary
  • Work with Customer Service, Events Staff and Operations team to ensure timely and productive workflows
  • Assist with bike and bike station spring deployment and fall storage
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record
  • Knowledge of Minneapolis and St.Paul area geography and street layout
  • Ability to work off hours and weekends
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds; stoop, bend, and stand for long periods of time
  • Job may require hours that exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and supervisors
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, remain open to others' ideas and willingness to try new things
  • Ability to work both independently and with others as a cohesive team player

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Mechanical aptitude and some mechanical repair experience
  • Experience driving and towing a trailer

Compensation: $15/hour
This is a seasonal position from April to November.

Part time and full time positions available.
