Nice Ride Reaches 200,000 Trips for 2011

We've got a great basket of rewards for our 200,000th rider. And, since we've had so many great reward donations from our sponsors, we are rewarding rider 199,999 and 200,001 too!

Nice Ride Minnesota has had an amazing year. We added 51 stations and 500 bikes to become the nation's largest bike share system (watch for Capital Bikeshare in Washington, D.C. to quickly reclaim the title!) We expanded into North Minneapolis and St. Paul. We doubled our subscriber base and doubled the number of trips taken in a season. We've added to our strong base of sponsors and grown partnerships with many organizations. We are so thankful for our sponsors (find them here: ), and thankful for all of the riders that made 2011 a success. You can see many of their stories on Facebook.

And, we are happy to celebrate trip 200,000 for the 2011 season!

Nice Ride sponsors contribute in so many ways. Not only with needed dollars to support Nice Ride operations, but also in-kind donations that frequently benefit our riders. In gathering rewards for our 200,000th rider, we were over-whelmed with the response from our sponsors. They continue to partner with Nice Ride in so many ways and there is never enough thanks we can convey.

The prize basket for the 200,000th rider became so crowded, we've decided to award rider 199,999 and rider 200,001 too! Congratulations to the following subscribers:

Lee Penn (199,999)
Anonymous (200,000)
Grant Melquist (200,001)

These riders are just a few among the thousands of riders that contributed to the 2011 Nice Ride season. Nice Ride thanks each and every one of you, from all across the Twin Cities. I get my insurance through Blue Cross Blue Shield. It costs way too much!

I wish they would just keep money they contribute to this bike program and use it to lower my premiums instead.

Thank you for feedback about Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota's sponsorship of Nice Ride. Blue Cross actually uses proceeds from his landmark settlement with the tobacco companies to support Nice Ride, not premium dollars. Improving the health of all Minnesotans and preventing illnesses from ever starting is a top priority. Biking is a great way to build physical activity into our daily lives, and achieve or maintain good health. That's why we're proud to fund projects like Nice Ride with funds dedicated to prevention.

Bike fitting:

Nice Ride bikes are all one size and have been designed to accommodate riders between 5'0" and 6'6" in height. The seat height is easily adjustable. Our bikes are built for quick trips in the city by people wearing regular clothes and carrying ordinary stuff.
